Artist Richard L. Ross |

Spend a Moment w/ Richard Ross to better understand this man and his work.

|
| Richard Ross is a self-taught artist from Irving, Texas. His formative years were spent concentrating on music, eventually co-founding the Denton based (now-defunct) band Brutal Juice. Richard's formal education includes a degree in History from the University of Dallas. As a visual artist, Ross experiments with all types of media, from pencils, acrylics and oils to found collage materials. His hope is to communicate his search for beauty and glimpses of the Platonic Forms into a new mythology. It seems he is always searching for new icons by sifting through old beliefs and a disposable contemporary society. With an inventory of works well into the hundreds, this show will be something to see first hand.

| Richard first came to the attention of Kettle
Art when he dropped off work for the first Spring Cleaning exhibition in 2006. Much
of his art featured 'Peas vs. Beans' social
commentary, painted with pure energy in a child like technique. After the quiet,
unassuming artist had left the gallery, his work immediately started to draw the attention
of everyone who dropped by. Within two days prior to the opening, seven of his nine
paintings had sold... Upon notification, Richard promptly returned with seven replacement
pieces to fill the void in his allocated exhibition space. I have no idea of how many pieces of art Richard has sold from that point on but he has shown regularly at Kettle Art ever since. It is also important to note this artist is no 'one trick pony' as he has evolved well beyond the aforementioned Peas & Beans schtick into expressions well beyond any other I've seen. Due to his dedication, perseverance, imagination and consistent quality, Ross played a major role in Kettle Arts' success at the Affordable Art Fair in NYC, June 2007. Please consider fitting this exhibit into your busy schedule, as it runs one night only and will surely amaze and bring joy into your life, Frank Campagna

| What other's have said
about Ross' work... "Although unsophisticated, Ross' work makes an emotional connection with
the viewer by plumbing real expressions and feelings"

|
| "Going once ... going twice
Any exhibit by local artist Richard Ross is not to be missed, especially if it runs for a
substantial period of time. Such is the case with Ross' current exhibit, "For Sale by
Owner," at the 7th Street Gallery. Ross is equally adept in such disparate media as
acrylics and oil (for his paintings) in addition to various multimedia modes of expression."

| ARTS READY Is Deep Ellum Dead this week? I can never keep up. I blame some of that on Kettle Art. Yeah you Frank, Kirk and company. You go and have all these phenomenal art shows, getting everyone excited about the local scene. You have affordable art that doesn't shun the mediocre income of some 20- and 30-somethings who want to begin their own collection (as well as justify their required Art Appreciation classes). To top that off, your openings are hip scenester parties that haven't been overrun by plastic socialites who buy art to merely fill a space (usually not the one in their heads, either). But when you have down time, descending into the abyss of our real lives, where we never feel as cool as we do when inside your four walls. We stay at home and leave Deep Ellum to fend for itself. You just better be glad (or is that we'd just better be glad?) we'll return soon for a one-night only Richard Ross exhibit. 7 p.m. Saturday at Kettle Art. 2714 Elm St. Call 214-573-7622 or visit kettleart.com -Rich Lopez, Dallas Observer - 8/ 07 Previous Kettle Art exhibits includeSpring Cleaning - 5/ 06 To the Nines, - 9/ 06 Tony Bones Benefit, contributor -12/ 06 Holiday Presence II - 12/ 06 Four Twenty One - 4/ 07 Spring Cleaning II - 5/ 07 the Cartoon Show - 6/ 07 Story Boards -6/ 07 AAF in N.Y.C.- 6/ 07 Other exhibits of note include Solo Shows:Main Street Market's, Fluorescence Light vs. the Sun - 1997 The Wreck Room, Collages - 2000 7th Street Gallery, For Sale by Owner - 2001 Counter Culture, The Great Bean and Pea War - 2006 The Bunker Gallery, Head for the Bunker - 2006 Magnolia Gallery, Falling from the Mouth of Nyami - 2006 Group Shows:AVAA's Dada Show, 1999 Mail Pieces - 1998 EASL's Mirror, Mirror at the Contemporary Art Center in Fort Worth - 1998 DVAC's Member Show - 1998 TCJC Northwest Campus, Art Walk - 1998 TCJC Southeast Campus, Transfusion at the Art Corridor - 2000 Shadow Gallery, Happy New Year - 2001 Lakewood Libray, 41st, 42nd and 43rd Annual Shows - 2005 - 2007 The Art Conspiracy's SEED - 2005, 2006 and 2007 Pigeon Stone Projects, Urban Myths at the Wreck Room - 2005 City Gallery, Madonna and Child - 2006 Revolution Gallery, Love Thyself - 2006 Frame Art, Sub-Urban Art Show - 2006 City Gallery, Scarcity and Abundance - 2007 Space Gallery, The Board Show - 2007 500X Gallery, Spring Formal - 2007 Studio Fling, Friday the 13th - 2007 |
