| Brewing Babes Scope some eye candy at Kettle Art By Danna Berger Kettle Art Gallery is going to have to expand its available wall space. Maybe it can take over some of the recently vacated buildings in Deep Ellum. While City Hall cultural fascists battle to remove the personality from our fair city, the Anne (and Deiter) Franks of the local contemporary art scene have found kindred patrons in Frank Campagna and Kirk Hopper. The walls of their little Kettle are bubbling over with passion, color and life. Crowded openings at recent shows prove a growing hunger for cultural connection through the bizarre reality that is pop expression. Kettle's new show, Skulls, Babes & Sparkley Guns, [sic] highlights three female artists—Cathey Miller, Judith Lea Perkins and Marie Sena. You might have caught some of their work at the 666 show last June or To the Nines in September. Trained in varied design disciplines, they've worked with commercial design for film and publications, mixed media and even fashion to contrast the beauty and the grotesque in life.
